Mom and daughter
Sam and I did a sibling maternity tour at Newton Wellesley Hospital today. Sam really wanted to go, so we gave it a try. The teacher was wonderful and gave the children a strong sense of empowerment when it came to being a big sister/brother, while also covering some basic safety tips. Sam got to put a diaper on a doll, swaddle it, and sing a lullabye. She also made a frame for a photo of her that I can bring to the hospital with me. (we provide the photo) We saw a newborn, and Sam said it looked very sweet. Sue, the teacher, explained about belly buttons and uteruses, breifly, and Sam says, "oh, I know all about that." And she does. Sue told everyone that they had to use their quiet voices at the nursery. Sam tells Sue that she has both a quiet voice and a loud voice. Everyone laughed at that. My little girl then abandons me to walk with Sue, and tells me that she only wants to hold Sue's hand. She makes me laugh, my independent little girl. Sue was very kind and happy to be with Sam and Jordan, another strong little girl.
It was a great experience, and I can't wait for Sam to be there with us meeting her little brother.
