Samantha and disapointment

Yesterday we found out that, despite sending in the request on time, Samantha is wait listed for camping with the Stratton Brownie troop in May. Poor Samantha cried for a half hour. Megan, the troop leader I sent the registration request to, didn't get it somehow, so Sam is out of luck unless someone gets sick. I hate seeing her heartbroken like this. She was so excited and I know this is really hard for her.

She is in vacation camp at the YMCA this week, three days 7:30 am to 5 pm. It keeps her busy and off the tv. We had everything for her, except we couldn't find her swim goggles. I guess without the goggles, she can't do diving. So she was crying about that this morning. I have a feeling that she is going to be pretty sensitive to disappointment in the next few weeks. Anyway, Matt looked everywhere, I looked everywhere, and I cannot find them. I found a store in Natick that sells Aquasphere Seal, small. Joshua and I went on an "expotition," as Pooh says, and traveled 45 minutes to Natick, MA. Natick is supposed to be only 25 minutes away, but there was stop and go traffic on 95. We had a great time wandering through the sporting goods store with absolutely everything in it at very reasonable prices. Josh got to have Mac and Cheese at the local lunch place, very yummy. He was a t-Rex roaring his restaurant roar which is quieter than the regular t-Rex roar. Josh made sure I knew he was a nice t-Rex. And he loves me. He is so adorable and loving, he brings tears to my eyes. Then that stubborn imp comes out and I could chew through leather he is so frustrating. Oh well. Sam got her goggles in time for swimming today, and I bought an extra pair in case we lose this pair.

Have a nice day everyone, and we love you too.

Episode 5, in which Samantha demonstrates that she can take care of herself

Samantha has been taking an "extreme dodgeball" class on Monday nights at the local Y, where they teach the kids a bunch of variations on dodgeball and everyone generally has a good time. She's been complaining about one of the boys in the class who always hits her in the head with the (soft foam) balls during the games. I think he had a bit of a crush on her, and she agreed, and so did his mother.

I'm not sure what happened at class tonight, but something happened because he punched Samantha in the nose. Hard.

And what did our little princess do when so affronted? She turned around and punched him right back. In the face. She got the better of the exchange. Sam's nose is swollen, but the other kid had a black eye and a cut on his cheek. He looked like he'd lost a boxing match. Who knew Sam had such a mean right cross?

I disapprove of fghting in general, but if someone punches you in the face I think it's fair to defend yourself. The staff at the Y seemed to agree. So did the boy's mother.
