sweets for the teacher

Samantha was very upset this morning when we did not remember to bring two cakes for her teachers, Mrs Shediac and asst teacher Ms. Lucente. Incidentally, Ms. Lucente is the daughter of one of Joshua's preschool teachers, Mrs. Lucente. Anyway, Joshua convinced me we needed to be nice to Samantha even though she was beastly this morning. He convinced me to bring the cakes to her school so that her teachers could have these misshapen little cakes. I brought them and it seemed to make Sam happy.

After dropping off the cakes, Josh and I came home and watched Peter Pan from the big bed. (That would be Matt and my bed) I am feeling pretty under the weather, so I was dozing during the movie. Every once in a while, Josh would lean over, kiss me and say, "I love you mommy." I feel so loved.

I told Sam I didn't feel well tonight, and she told me I should go to sleep early. I said I didn't think that was fair, who would take care of Joshua? She says of course it is fair, you don't feel well and I can feed Joshua! I can make scrambled eggs and toast. You know what? At eight years old, she can do all of those things, and manage Joshua for the most part. It is just us pesky parents getting in the way. I started tearing up, it was such a sweet thing for her to offer to do.

The clincher

This is the after. Little wee cakes just waiting for frosting, and a not so wee mess in the sink. If this pile had teeth, we would be dead.

Pasta, Mange!

Since Matt is off on his plane for Portland this afternoon, I decided to make a mess and do cakes and pasta. I tried pasta with spelt, which turned out to be pretty tasty. You have to understand, Matt is the neat one in the family. He cooks and you can't tell he is cooking. I cook, and there is a trail of flour and carrot peels out the door. Drives him crazy. So I wait to do this when he is gone, then send him pictures, of course. Gotta have some fun in life!

This is the before/during. She looks pretty professional, don't you think? She rolled it out, rolled them up and sliced them into noodles with a knife. Not too shabby for an eight year old.

Alex's party

One of Joshua's classmates had a birthday party today, Alex. Joshua picked out Hotwheels card, and present. He knew just what he wanted, how? I don't know. It seems there are Cars characters that go through a car wash and change color, so we got him that. And I got both of them Cars flashlights. The party was pretty fun. I met one of Matt's lawyers. His daughter and Joshua love playing together and they are in the same class. She is a sweet little girl. They live in Revere, though, so he probably won't see Isabelle after preschool. So many of the children were just waiting for Joshua to show up at the party. He is a popular kind of guy.

Birthdays, girls scouts

I called the girl scouts myself. The director's assistant made some phone calls so that everyone in the troop could go together. Sam was so happy. She was thrilled.

We attended Sam's friend's birthday party last night at Together in Motion, ostensibly a dance party, but mostly everyone hopped around on the mats. Joshua was also invited. They both kept going strong even into 9:30pm. Joshua got home, I read to him and he just went limp once all the books were done. Why he didn't pass out long before then, I have no idea. His auntie Pat said I should take him to the party, so I did, and he was fine. Samantha looked lovely in a purple sparkly dress with tights and black patent leather shoes. She even let me put her hair up. Her beautiful eyes really stand out when she has her hair up. She wondered if there were any boys there to charm her. Yikes! She is growing up, our sweet one.
