Josh's first day at Pre school

Josh says the school has two playgrounds, outside! and there are dumptrucks, cars, and a tow truck. And there are two sinks! one big sink (Josh holds up one tiny pointer finger) and one little sink for me! (holds up pointer finger again) [exclamations by Joshua) The other catch phrase he came home with was "hop, skip to the fountain." He sang that every few minutes all afternoon. I asked the teacher this morning if that was a phrase they used, and she was as puzzled as I. Joshua is an original.

He almost went in pajamas this morning, but chose the light up Cars shirt instead. The only way I could get his overnight diaper off was to let him wear a new diaper to school. So, he is completely potty trained, will take the diaper off to pee, but he has a diaper on. Whatever. His body, his choice. I just told the teacher so she wouldn't be surprised. I don't think they get surprised by much.

He clung to Dad the first day, and clung a bit today. I picked him up, told him about the Kissing hand, kissed him and told him how much I love him, said goodbye and walked out. Yep, my eyes were all wet, but he was happy. And weird thing is, as I walked out, turns out the book today is the "Kissing Hand." How serendipitous is that? He carried his own backpack to the car, and into the school. He was excited to find his own cubby and hang up his own backpack and coat. He is so glad to be a big boy and I am so proud of him I could pop.

He did not want to do dance yesterday. I think it was too much in one week.

school

Samantha starts second grade tomorrow. joshua starts preschool next Tuesday. He is very excited. Samantha is too. I am so glad I have children that look forward to new changes. I just am a little panicked for myself. My babies are wonderful, and getting older. What do I do while they are busy? Use that gift certificate Matt gave me for a spa treatment? I'd say yes. Our little bubbelehs are growing so big and so independent. I have to remind myself to step back and let Josh struggle with his shoes unless he asks me for help. I have to remember that Sam makes her own decision about clothes now. Ugh. If I keep thinking about this, I'll cry. I'm going to get some pants for Sam now.

Vive la France!

Samantha and I went clothes shopping yesterday and found a wonderful resale boutique for designer children's clothing. Samantha tried on some lovely dresses and chose three of them. She wrinkled her nose at the pants. She picked out hair bows for each outfit and enlisted the store owner (this is at Liena's, for those readers who are local) to help her pick out just the right ones. Then she modeled them for us. We were having a blast, I think all three of us. After a long and exhausting search, some of it spent reading on the floor (Samantha) we placed our purchases in the car and stopped for a bite to eat at La Patisserie. Sandwiches, hot soup, and a tasty dessert made us feel ever so much better. I felt like I had somehow crossed the Atlantic and had a special haute couture day. Sam agreed, and quoted from "Kitty goes to Paris" Yes! It was just like that!

Josh spent the day with Marie and had a great time.
